A wicket gate is a component of water turbines to control the flow of water that enters the turbine. A series of small openings of the wicket gates surround the turbine. When the wicket gates are opened wider, more water will flow into the turbine runner which results in higher speeds of the turbine rotation. The control of wicket gate opening and closing will allow the output energy generated by the turbines to be controlled to match the desired output energy levels.

Belzona® has been involved in the rebuilding and coating of component equipment for over 60 years.  On page 4 of the attached In Focus magazine you can see the steps we take to rebuild and protect the wicket gates.

Also, if you have ten minutes, listen to the attached radio interview with one of our favorite hydro customers and listen towards the end as to the importance of maintaining the pond.  Belzona® coatings can help generate the same amount of electricity using less water.
